  • Ok, so you just got done buying a car with bad credit. Now what do I do it it starts breaking down on me? Here are some things to look for:

     

    What do the brake warning lights mean in my car?

    • Your emergency brake is on. Release it to solve the problem.
    • You have lost brake pressure in half of the brake system.
    • There could be a leak in one part of the system
    • The hydraulic fluid could be low

    What to do if my brakes squeaking?

    • The metal rotor that the brake pads squeeze together can sometimes vibrate, causing a squeaking noise---Try a different brand of brake pad
    • Use sandpaper to sand off surface hardening of the brake pad surface.
    • Spray a solution on the back of the pads

     

    The key won't turn in the ignition?

    • this happens when the steering is locked by the ignition lock with the front wheels turned aside
    • try turning the steering wheel left and right while gently jiggling the ignition key
    • The key and the lock mechanism wear over time. Try using a spare key

    The ‘check engine’ light does not come on?

    • it's possible that there is no power coming to the engine computer
    • that there is a problem with the engine computer itself.

    The starter won't crank:

    • The ignition switch could be at fault, which is a common problem
    • The starter motor has failed
    • Starter motor control wire could have bad connection
    • If the car is not in ‘Neutral’ or ‘Park’ it will not start
    • check the car battery
    • if it is a manual transmission, make sure the clutch is depressed

    The starter cranks normally, but the engine won't start:

    • issues with fuel delivery system
    • Problem with engine electronics
    • Ignition system problems
    • broken timing belt
    • check the crank sensor or cam sensor
    • check the air flow sensor and power relay switch

    The car died with little fuel in the tank

    • Umm, make sure that you have fuel in the tank

    Low oil pressure warning light comes on while driving

    • You ran out of the oil
    • the oil screen is clogged in the oil pan

    Black smoke from exhaust:

    • You have too much gas going to the engine which most likely means there is something wrong with fuel or ignition system
    • blue or white-blue smoke means you are burning oil.
